Your Bulk LPG Propane Gas Switch Questions Answered

Oil to LPG (LP Gas)

Whilst the range of heating alternatives has grown in recent years for many ‘off-grid’ energy consumers Oil and LPG are still the preferred energy choice, both being delivered by road tanker and stored in tanks normally to be consumed for heating and hot water.

LPG (LP Gas) v’s Oil

Price and versatility

In recent times LPG has remained cheaper per litre than Oil. Whilst prices do fluctuate based upon local and global demand for energy, LPG continues to be a highly attractive ‘off-grid’ energy option for both home and business

  • LPG is a highly versatile fuel for instant heat, hot water and cooking
  • LPG has lower CO2 emissions (LPG emits 11.7% less CO2 per kWh than heating oil)
  • LPG produces significantly fewer NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and sulphur particulates than heating oil so virtually no soot is formed.
  • LPG boilers are quieter than heating oil boilers & odour free.

Strict Environmental regulations are in place for the storage of oil and failure to comply is a criminal offence with a fine of up to £5,000. These regulations do not apply to LPG storage.

LPG can’t be stolen in the same was as Oil (thieves can drill into plastic/steel Oil tanks). In recent times thefts have been on the increase with many thousands of reported thefts each year.

LPG suppliers will provide you with 24/7 Technical and Emergency Support.

With Oil you are responsible for the maintenance & upkeep of your own storage tank.

Cheaper Setup Costs & Total Peace of Mind

The set up costs for a new install with LPG are generally less than Oil (cost of an Oil boiler plus having to buy your own storage vessels).

With LPG there is no storage tank purchase cost, the tank install for a domestic above ground LPG tank normally being carried out ‘free of charge’. A 2000 litre Oil tank will cost approx £1,000

Also, LPG boilers generally have a longer life and require less maintenance.

LPG ‘Telemetry’ and ‘Top-Up’

Your LPG provider will normally take control of your LPG deliveries, ensuring that readings are either sent via a smart metering unit (often referred to as Telemetry) or your LPG usage will be predicted based upon your historical consumption, outside temperature and long range weather forecasting.
